MiniRoos

For kids ready to take the next step, the MiniRoos program is Football Victoria’s official grassroots pathway for ages 8–11. It focuses on small-sided games, skill development, and building confidence in a safe, inclusive environment where fun comes first.

Ages U7 - U11

Team Grading

Teams are grouped into three categories:

Kangaroos: Strong skills

Wallabies: Developing skills

Joeys: Learning skills

Players can move between age groups or categories based on development needs.

Training & Matches: Weekly training sessions plus weekend games.

Other Key Points: 

  • Game Leader (referee): A parent or club volunteer keeps the game flowing and ensures fun.
  • Fair Game Time: All players should get equal time on the field.

  • Philosophy: Fun first, skills second, lifelong love of football.

  • Game Format:

    Under 8 & 9

  • Format: 7 v 7 (+4 subs)
  • Pitch: 40–50m x 30–40m
  • Ball: Size 3
  • Goalkeeper: Yes
  • Game Time: 2 × 20 min halves

  • Under 10 & 11:

    Format: 9 v 9 (+5 subs)

    Pitch: 60–70m x 40–50m

    Ball: Size 4

    Goalkeeper: Yes

    Game Time: 2 × 25 min halves
