The Strikers Way

The Strikers Way is Peninsula Strikers Junior FC’s shared approach to how we play, coach and behave on and off the pitch. It sets clear expectations for players, coaches and families and gives every child a consistent, positive football experience.

Our Mission & Values

We promote Fun, Friendship and Achievement in a community environment. We strive to develop good footballers and great people through structured, age‑appropriate programs.

Our Style of Play (All Ages)

  • Possession-based football: build from the back → through midfield → to attack.
  • In possession: pass and move; support the ball; be brave and creative.
  • Out of possession: work together to press, mark and win the ball back quickly.
  • Individual expression: we encourage creativity and two‑footed play.

Player Pathway (Age Phases)

We align to Football Australia’s Building Blocks with a PSJFC flavour:

Discovery Phase (typically MiniRoos)

  • Focus: ball familiarity, small‑sided games and fun.
  • Emphasis: constant activity, lots of touches, imagination and enjoyment.

Skill Acquisition Phase (approx. U9–U12)

  • Focus: mastering the 4 Core Skills:
  1. First touch
  2. Striking the ball (passing/finishing)
  3. Running with the ball
  4. 1v1 (attack & defend)

Method: high‑repetition game practices, two‑footed play, fast feet, quick decisions.

Game Training Phase (approx. U13–U16)

  • Focus: translating technique into team play (attacking/defending principles and transitions).
  • Method: realistic game‑based practices, unit play (build‑up, midfield, final third), and structured pressing/defending.

Everyone develops at their own pace. Coaches adapt for age, stage and experience.

The Strikers Way – Player Toolkit

Soccer Skills
7‑Step Ball Control

Head up • On toes • Get in line with the ball • Offer a surface • Cushion to keep close • Cushion into space (both feet) • Execute (pass/dribble/shot/shield)

Core Actions We Practise Every Week

  • Dribbling & Turning: close control, feints, quick acceleration, go both ways.
  • Passing: scan, plant, firm contact, pass to space/feet with appropriate pace, support.
  • Crossing: target a player/area, clean contact, follow‑through, attack the corridor.
  • Finishing: head and knee over the ball, strike centre/appropriate contact, hit the target.
  • 1v1 Defending: close space, be patient, low stance, time the tackle, win cleanly.
  • Marking/Tracking: be goal‑side, touch‑tight, see ball and opponent, be brave.

Coaching at Strikers

We deliver player‑centred, game‑sense sessions using PDE (Perceive → Decide → Execute):

  • Perceive: observe play; let players play.
  • Decide: pick the key coaching point and the right moment.
  • Execute: use questions, quick demos, and positive reinforcement.

This builds: technical mastery, game understanding, decision‑making, teamwork and football fitness.

Coaching manner: enthusiastic, inclusive, equitable, organised; minimal lines; lots of ball‑rolling time; positive sandwich feedback (praise → correction → praise).

Parents & Players – What to Expect

  • A safe, friendly environment that values effort, learning and joy over short‑term results.
  • Game‑like sessions with lots of touches and chances to try things.
  • Positive, age‑appropriate coaching and clear communication.
  • Encouragement to practise at home: Get a ball, find a wall!

How you can help

  • Celebrate effort and teamwork.
  • Focus post‑game chat on: Did you have fun? What did you learn?
  • Bring the right gear; arrive on time; help set up/pack down when you can.

A: No. We value long‑term player development, enjoyment and learning. Results matter, but not more than wellbeing and growth.
